We have finally reached a milestone in the
entertainment industry! Kate is learning that her hands are amazing. Not only can they change shape...there are two of them...and they can go up to the ring finger into her mouth without gagging.
There was a "sip 'n see" party for Kate on Sunday (Thanks, Mel and Sara). Many gals came to see Kate and hold her, too. She was a party girl, but it took a toll on her -- she slept from 9 p.m. until 8 a.m.. I am thinking we will have to do that more often!!
Although still a little young for the Bumbo seat (she has almost full control of her head, but I think it has to hurt to hold it up for a long time), Kate does enjoy sitting up and this is her first time to play with her new toy. Amazing that less than three months ago the only thing she could do was scratch her face with her hands. Now she is grabbing objects and learning to play alone. That makes mommy happy, too!
We leave for Florida on Saturday. Wish us luck on the flights. I am sure you all know what I am talking about!

The Iceman Cometh
12 February 2008
Matt called yesterday to say that school was getting out early
because the weathermen were calling for snow. Around 3, we started getting the snow but nothing that would count for much in other areas of the country. By evening, we had a couple of inches of snow, but on top of the snow landed ice. School was called off today, and we are enjoying our first snow day of the year. The ice makes everything pretty, but I do hear branches snapping.
Ezra has begun laying on the towel previously designated as Kate's changing area in our bathroom. And, darn it, he is just too cute and too comfortable to move!
Kate doesn't mind because she is busy doing the chicken dance in the tub! Maybe the exercise will help her lose her double chin! One can hope!
playtime makes a girl tired

The sun was out for three days and the weather was nice enough to chance a stroll. Kate enjoyed it more now though she still is not at the level to go for an hour. Maybe soon. I have postponed purchasing a jogging stroller until I am sure she will go along.
I have heard that Kate looks older than 8 weeks, so I wanted to show her size relative to her moses basket. She is still a peanut, but she has grown another inch (23 now).
Kate will now play on the floor on her back and this is an opportunity for Drake to check her out. He has been so gentle with her and continues to offer her his toys. This makes us feel good (other than the germ issue) because he isn't guarding them as HIS. He is still trying to get Kate to play ball and thinks that putting it RIGHT next to her will be the key. In the picture, Kate is either trying to tell him that she just can't quite throw it yet or trying to put it in her mouth. I am not sure which.
Either way, Drake thanked her for sharing her blanket.
Just another day in the big "O."
It's not easy to be Kate!

During the superbowl, Kate lounged on her rocking duck. Her cousin Jeb has loaned this this toy to her, and she thinks it is great fun for someone to rock her while she hangs out.
Kate smiles all the time though I have yet to catch a full one with the camera. This is the best one so far. (Thanks, Jane, for the outfit!)
Kate's new hat for Valentine's day! She, of course, is totally unaware of the hat due to being in a food coma (notice the bib she is sporting). Eating just wears her out!
Drake and Kate actually made contact on their own. While burping Kate, Drake decided to lick her hand. She responded by touching him. Drake thought this meant she was ready to play, so he ran to get his ball. Too bad miss Kate is not quite ready for the game of fetch.
I have also noticed that in this picture, Kate looks to be storing nuts in her cheeks. Another picture of her in her bib! One could never say she was starving, that is for sure!
